These are some notebooks created by using heat transfer disperse dyes. To create these designs, I first paint washes of the dyes onto thin papers and leave to dry. I then place some cut paper stencils onto my chosen fabric, then place the dyed paper colour side down over the top and a domestic iron is used over the back of the paper to heat transfer the dye from the paper to the fabric with the stencils acting as a resist around the dyed transfer colour. As the dye also colours the back of the paper stencil, I can reuse this by flipping over the paper stencils so that they are laid colour side down onto a different piece of fabric and then a dyed paper in a contrasting colour is laid over the top and the whole heat transferred. The design is completed with an individually free machine embroidered butterfly image.
